Hydraulic clock at Souk al sharq

There is a famous hydraulic clock at Souk al sharq, one of the best shopping malls in the country. the mall is made on a manmade island 50ms away from land. The clock is a beauty . I am sharing the picture I have taken of it.

A water clock or clepsydra (Greek kleptein, to steal; hydro, water) is any timekeeper operated by means of a regulated flow of liquid into (inflow type) or out from (outflow type) a vessel where the amount is then measured.

Some water clock designs were developed independently and some knowledge was transferred through the spread of trade. It is important to point out that the need for the common person to 'know what time it is' largely did not exist until the Industrial Revolution, when it became important to keep track of hours worked. In the earliest of times, however, the water clocks were mainly used for astronomical and astrological purposes. These early water clocks were calibrated with a sundial. Through the centuries, water clocks were used for timing lawyer's speeches during a trial, labors of prostitutes, night watches of guards, sermons and Masses in church, to name only a few.[citation needed] While never reaching a level of accuracy comparable to today's standards of timekeeping, the water clock was the most accurate and commonly used timekeeping device for millennia, until it was replaced by more accurate pendulum clocks in 17th century Europe.

DSL

A digital subscriber line (DSL) modem is a type of modem used to connect a personal computer (PC) to the Internet. DSL modems can provide for fast Internet access, as they are designed for use with high-speed DSL connections. DSL connections are considered much faster than dial-up Internet connections. In addition to greater speed, DSL service allows the user to talk on the phone while simultaneously accessing the Internet.
A DSL modem, also referred to as an asymmetric DSL (ADSL) modem, provides service that is similar, with the exception of speed, to that provided by a dial-up modem. However, there are some major differences in the setup and technological make up of DSL modems. For example, dial-up modems are frequently, though not always, installed inside computer terminals. By contrast, a DSL modem is typically external and connects to a computer via a USB or Ethernet port.
There are DSL modems that use either a USB or Ethernet port, as well as those designed for use with both. Though a DSL modem may be capable of working with a universal serial bus (USB) port, most experts recommend the use of an Ethernet port. It is said that the connection is considerably better when an Ethernet port is used.
An Ethernet DSL modem can be employed whether the user has a single computer or a network of PCs. A router can be used to allow more than one computer to enjoy the same Internet connection. The router used must be capable of Network Address Translation (NAT). By contrast, USB modems are recommended for use with single computers only. Usually, a modem connected via a USB port cannot support a router.
DSL modems can be purchased from an abundance of electronic, computer, and department stores. They are also available online from a variety of companies, as well as private sellers. Often, they are sold with the required cables, power supply, and filters in one package. Filters included with a DSL modem are called low-pass filters. They are used to keep data signals from causing interference with regular phone calls.
Frequently, companies that provide DSL service offer DSL modems to their customers free of charge. Often, as a condition of receiving a free DSL modem, a customer must sign a contact agreeing to pay for the company’s Internet service for a particular amount of time. In other cases, the DSL modem is purchased directly from the service provider. Some companies offer the modems for rent

Microsoft to offer free security

In a surprise move, Microsoft has announced it will offer a free anti-virus and security solution from the second half of next year.
It will stop selling OneCare, its all-in-one security and PC management service, from the end of June 2009.
The new software, code-named Morro, will be a no-frills program suited to smaller and less powerful computers.
The software will be free to download and will support Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
The move comes as sales of the OneCare subscription service are flagging - reportedly because the anti-virus marketplace is already flooded with big-name players such as Symantec and McAfee.
Since its launch in May 2006, OneCare has garnered less than 2% of the security software market share.
In a statement, Microsoft said that Morro would be designed specifically to be a small-footprint program that uses fewer system resources. This, it said, would be ideal for users with low-bandwidth connections or computers without much processing power.
That will be of particular interest to consumers buying comparatively low-powered "netbook" computers.
Amy Barzdukas, senior director of product management in the online services division at Microsoft, said: "This new, no-cost offering will give us the ability to protect an even greater number of consumers, especially in markets where the growth of new PC purchases is outpaced only by the growth of malware."

Alas, there’s no screen, but designer Gopinath Prasana figures you can navigate just fine with an audio-oriented navigation system.Ear buds with the annoying cords won’t be found here, as the audio is transmitted via wireless ear buds.

There’s a multi-touch track pad for easy navigation. It also has a few additional buttons for music control. Although the iBangle doesn’t have a screen, designer Gopinath Prasana figures you can navigate just fine with it’s audio-oriented navigation system.
